Tomorrow's Momversation is about a hotly debated topic these days: the sexualization of our tween girls.  At younger and younger ages, little girls are wanting to look "sexy."  But what can sexy mean to an 8-year-old anyway?  Here are 9 clothing items to avoid if you want your tween to look age appropriate (a.k.a., a little common sense your way):

9.  High Heels

Luckily, they don't really make extremely high heels for little girls (just babies), but a lot of tweens are already in adult sizes.  With idolized stars like Miley Cyrus wearing super-sexy shoes, little girls are sure to want to emulate.  A sprained ankle later, and you'll wish you stuck to flats.

8.  Fleece Pants from Abercrombie Kids

Fleece pants?  How are those sexy?  It's not the pants; it's the marketing.  Apparently, Abercrombie needed a way to sexualize the least sexually explicit clothing in fashion history by calling them "Cute Butt" pants.  Just Say No to these techniques, and buy your kids' pants somewhere that respects children.

7.  Ed Hardy Leggings

These aren't sexy (unless you are wearing them with a short-cropped shirt), but they sure are ugly.  Please don't subject your poor kids to Ed Hardy gear.  Remember, it's Jon-Gosselin-approved.  And if that doesn't steer you away from Christian Audigier...

6.  Low-Cut Tanks

Another offender from Abercrombie Kids.  This top doesn't look like a tank; it looks like lingerie.  Have we convinced you that this store is just plain gross?

5.  Padded, Push-Up Bras

Can it be a "push up" bra if there's nothing to push up?

4.  Super-Short Miniskirts

These little skirts can be cute if paired with leggings.  Without leggings, and they're downright criminal.

3.  Ultra-Low-Rise Jeans

Why don't we just call them butt-crack jeans and throw out the euphemism already?  Should a tween really have her bum on display for every perv in the neighborhood?

2.  Thongs

A little girl shouldn't have to worry about "visible pany lines."

1.  T-Shirts with Sexual Innuendo

Who comes up with these, Gary Glitter?

I only take issue with the assessment of thongs. There ARE some times when a girl doesn't want panty lines... like her ballet recital. My daughter's dance teacher makes the girls dance without panties on at recitals to avoid their panties sticking out from their leotards for everyone to see. They wear modest costumes over their leotards, and nobody can see any "details" so I don't think it's pervy. But I do think it's a bit gross to go entirely without panties. When I used to dance, I really liked wearing thong panties because they didn't show under the leotard. I'd rather my daughter wear a thong than go without panties at all under her leotard. But for any other occasion besides a dance recital... NO to thongs.

This is a big problem. Clothes, make up and trends are making our girls look way older than they really are. And this is not OK!!! I agree completely. We all need to be on top of this, although that's difficult because all the kids are doing it. Kids don't want to feel like they're on the outside looking in. Can't some store come up with some hip clothes that don't expose cracks and mini cleavage??!!! And....Whomever is writing the slogans for those T shirts should be put in jail. What parent lets their kid wear one of those!!!??? www.theguysperspective.typepad.com

Hi! My store features hip clothes that are age-appropriate in sizes 6-14 (well carry sizes 2 and up starting in January). I do all the buying for the store, and with kids of my own that are "that age," I am super sensitive to this issue. The Los Angeles Times recently did an article about how girl's clothes are finally starting to trend toward being more age-appropriate, and they featured us. You can read it here: http://tinyurl.com/ykn27zt I hope you can check out our store! http://www.juvieshop.com
