Well, well, well, former Senator John Edwards has finally admitted that he had a baby girl with his mistress Rielle Hunter. (You know, the lady he was schtupping while his wife was fighting breast cancer. ) You could knock me over with a feather. I mean, a politician? Lying? But he had such perfect hair! ...Such perfect hair (sigh).

And while the actions of Edwards are scummy in and of themselves, I find his denial of paternity to be the most unsettling thing he's done. Sure, having an affair is terrible. Having an affair while your wife is deathly ill is despicable. And siring a child with your mistress is reprehensible... Wait, where was I going with this?
Ah yes, denial of paternity. How will this affect the young child who was a product of Edwards's affair? I have images of this poor little girl growing up to read story after story of her father's cowardly denials. She'll feel shame, as if her existence wasn't welcomed, as if she were nothing more than an inconvenience to the powerful hairdo (erm, Senator) from North Carolina. And worst of all, that maybe her father didn't really love her and wasn't proud of her. After all, what kind of father doesn't hand out bubble-gum cigars when his daughter is born?
Although Edwards presumably was a small part of Quinn's life, it wasn't until yesterday, in a statement to NBC news, that he wrote:
“I am Quinn’s father... I will do everything in my power to provide her with the love and support she deserves.”
Yeah, now. [Slow clap.]
And why now? The rumour is is that a tell-all book from his former aide Andrew Young would reveal Edwards's secret. And it's coming out on Februrary 2.
Wow. Talk about a weasel. A weasel with unstoppable hair.
