Certain food allergies can be quite scary. Allergies to peanuts and shellfish, for example, can cause people's throats to swell, cutting off breathing. So, it's no wonder that parents are extra cautious when it comes to introducing new foods to a kid's diet... and extra nervous if a child seems to exhibit a sensitivity to a food.

Turns out, though, that caution might be mixed in with a little paranoia. According to CafeMom:
While food allergies and intolerances do appear to be on the rise (18 percent in children over the last decade), so do the number of people (or kids) who erroneously think they have them. Studies indicate that only 25 percent of people (or kids) suspected of having a food allergy actually have one.
What to do? For starters, make sure your allergist accurately diagnoses your child using a food challenge, and get a second opinion if needed.
