Mom Daily: Pageant Mom Puts 8 Year Old on a Diet

Is it any wonder that I think Toddlers & Tiaras is the bottom of the barrel of reality TV (and that's including Britney and Kevin: Chaotic).

This mom puts her daughter on a crash diet ("You can't gain any weight; we'll have to put you on a fruit diet for a week.") so she can fit into a pageant dress. Eating disorders, ho! Tracie of Jezebel sums it up thusly:

Isn't it standard for 8-year-old children to "get bigger"? Isn't that called growing?

It breaks my heart to hear that the mom has "put Alyssa on diets before" and that she "gets mad" if Alyssa doesn't follow her eating rules. What kind of mother would subject her daughter to a lifetime of body issues and self-loathing just to win a stupid beauty contest? Oh, right. A crappy one (love how she's chowing down while her voiceover plays about how hungry Alyssa is).

Keep it up, mom. You might just surpass Kate Gosselin as "World's Worst Stage Mother."

This makes me want to bang my head on the table. I had to read it twice. Who would do that? Hope she's earning enough in her pageants to pay for her future therapy.
