When your child misbehaves, do you spank him or her?  Turns out that a new study says that spanking is not only a bad discipline method, but it actually harm your child beyond the immediate physical discomfort.  It can cause behavioral problems, including aggressiveness and cognitive difficulties, according to New Parent:

According to the study, which will be published in the September/October issue of Child Development, children who were spanked as 1-year-olds are more likely to behave aggressively when they are older, and also do worse on cognitive tests compared to their peers who were not spanked.

I never spanked my children - because I don't believe children should be hit - anymore than I think I should hit an adult or animal. I am 56 and my children are now great adults. Why anyone thinks hitting a vulnerable child is GOOD practise and teaches anything is beyond me. It only taught me fear, pain, anger, hate and resentment. My parents lost my love, trust and respect. They never won it back. I don't respect people that hit me - or anyone else.
