Ah, the tween years. It's the time when puberty hits, hormones rage, and kids start racing towards adulthood. And it's especially hard for girls. What did Britney Spears so eloquently say? "Not a girl, not yet a woman?" Thank goodness we have an artist who can so brilliantly encapsulate the tweenager experience.
All kidding aside, these years can be difficult for both kids and their parents. Some tweens are still playing with dolls; others are "sexting." Or as Momversation user MsBwell writes in our forums:
One day I have a sweet loving daughter who talked to me and had tons of friends. The next day I don't even know this kid! She's calling me a b*tch online, talking about running away to her real British parents (we are her real parents btw) and is now painfully socially awkward.
Then there's all the decision parents have to make. How much responsiblity do I give my kids? At what age should my daughter shave her legs? And how do you discuss sex with a tween?
And social pressures from their peers and the media (see the bratty, consumerist My Super Sweet Sixteen) can lead your children down the wrong path.
So, what is your advice to moms of tweens? What are the joys and difficulties of raising kids at this age? Join the Momversation!
