In this day and age, I believe it is good to provide your child with a cell phone. (Be sure to turn the sound off the keys, in case they're in danger and have to dial 9-1-1). You probably wouldn't leave them home with no way to call for help. Socially, I can see why they don't need one, but for their own safety, perhaps it's best. Better safe than sorry, right?
