Trimming the Tree (and Keeping Our Limbs)

Last night we trimmed our Christmas tree. Making this the first year all three girls (Lexi 11, Whitney 3, and Heidi 2) joined in the festivities. The tree looks sparkly and magical and I’m hopeful the facial tick I developed during last night’s activities will subside by the New Year. What was once a relaxing holiday tradition, complete with Christmas music and nog, has become something of a contact sport.

Ben photographed the special occasion, and I ran crowd control over at the ornament box where, what started as holiday enthusiasm quickly escalated into riot level aggression. The girls smack-talked and elbowed one another in order to get the “good” ornaments, resembling brides-to-be at Filene’s Annual Bridal Gown sale.

Whitney showed Heidi the best way to yank-out the ornament hangers, like grenade pins, and toss them across the area rug. Also, at one point, I was sure Heidi was going to need a blood transfusion when she crawled into the box filled with glass ornaments. And when I screeched to my feet to save her from bleeding to death, she merely said “play boat..."
