It's an addicting TV show: Jon and Kate Plus 8. Its season 5 premiere was record-breaking, and Kate Gosselin adorns magazine covers, her famous haircut (love it or hate it) spiked and blonde, her gratis tummy tuck displayed in a bikini on one of her many vacations. Jon and Kate are all over the media, but is the TV drama getting to be... boring? Giyen Kim of Bacon Is My Enemy asks, "Are you sick of Jon and Kate?"
What are your thoughts on the famous couple? Do you like the TV show? Are you tired of the tabloids? Do you just wish they'd go away? And what do you think about their kids? Are they being exploited? Join the Momversation by commenting.

I saw the Hulu Video of Kate on the Today show yesterday. OMG!!!! She is complaining that she only has $1,000 in her bank account. Well lady, that's more than a lot of people have in an account. I really think this lady needs a reality check, her and her stupid husband. Go and get real jobs to support your kids. Maybe Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar should have a conversation with those 2. Kate is obviously spoiled by all this supposed "success" that she can't fathom getting back into her Nursing job?? First off, sell the million dollar house that you bought on premise of doing this show. Now that you can't afford it, get rid of it and get rid of your attitude. She is nothing but a wanna be fashionista who doesn't have a decent hairdo. But let's make a show about how her and Jon had to make a "special day" out of getting their TEETH WHITENED!!!! How vain are these 2??? Obviously very. They had body transformations; him with the hair and teeth, her with the new tummy, a new home built, new cars, new trips, NEW VOW RENEWAL, (what a joke). These people are so fake they don't live in the REAL WORLD!!! What did she think, this show would last forever? She claims she and Jon were barely making it financially when she got pregnant with the sextuplets. Well you know what, bad things happen to everyone everyday==what makes her so special? Yes this show is disruptive to her children, she needs to kick everyone out and learn to deal with her nagging little children BY HERSELF. With no camera crew around to help. The crew is there because it was their job, their job was not to babysit so the kids could get to know and love them. How sick is that??? The best thing to do for this show is just take it COMPLETELY off the air and don't give them anymore press. The 2 adults involved in all the decision making going on here have severely failed their kids.

I am sick of ALL celebrities. Whiny babies and then they are shocked when their kids grow up to be whiny babies.
Seriously, stay at home, raise your kids, and shut up.
That goes double for jon and kate.

As a televison producer I see this all the time. Average Joe's who are lured by the glitz and glamour of television. But once the camera's start rolling they find out what television production is really all about. Most people who agree to go on camera for ANY show let alone a show that's filmed in their home have NO IDEA what they're in for. Once it's on film. It's on film. Forever. Got it? Think about that before you pen a deal for a reality show.

Those two are just a whole pile of ick.

Just head over to www.gosselinswithoutpity.blogspot.com
You will see why you should be tired of them. The whole show is a manipulation by sick people who have no regard for children. I watched in the beginning because I liked how organized they were and how they worked together as a team, were willing to take multiples on outings, etc. Now, I see that it was all a lie and can't wait until their 15 minutes of fame are over!

OMG yes I am so sick of them that I almost didn't watch this video. I made it through 1.5 episodes of that show before I wanted to strangle Kate. And, I thought the show was about more than just two people who had a bunch of kids. But no, it's not.
Ok, if you have 8 kids in 4 years and then put yourself under the hot, hot spotlight of a reality show, how the EFF do you expect your marriage to survive (especially when it evidently did not have that great of a foundation to begin with)???
Everytime I see them on the cover of a magazine, I roll my eyes. I figured society would have moved on long ago. And those poor kids. Those poor, poor scarred-for-life kids. Ugh.

I agree with you...almost didn't watch this video either. I just don't see why we need to discuss this family or their show. So many more worthwhile things to focus on. But I pretty much steer clear of mainstream obsessive entertainment media. I used to be, years ago, but luckily I'm reformed. :)

What concerns me is that these parents seem to have been pimping out their children. I understand that they would need lots of finances to take care of them all, but this was their choice too. They chose to undergo fertility treatment to conceive. If they weren't going to be able to take care of 8 children, why did they go through with it?
As cruel as it may seem, I have zero sympathy for them.

I'll admit I watched the show lots during my maternity leave, it was strangely comforting to see experienced parents struggle just like I was struggling as a new mom. While I believe, like Mindy, that the show started with the best of intentions, I do think its time for the family to walk away. I imagine we'll see the kids after they've grown up someday on some random VH1 "Best of" special and that's fine by me.

And then Octomom is supposedly going to have her own show too.
It seems like there is NO END to this reality TV cycle of doom....
Fri, 2009-07-10 07:34
So true. What kills me is the conversations I've had with people who openly criticize Octomom for wanting a show, book deals, etc., and then in the next breath say how much they love Jon & Kate without realizing the irony. Gosh, I wonder where the Octomom got the idea she could profit off her high-order multiples?

Admittedly, I've never watched the show, but I think Mindy hit this right on: I (would like to) believe this was a good intention gone wrong. When you're faced with the prospect of providing for 8 children, a Hollywood deal probably seems like a godsend great idea. But they're normal people under abnormal pressure, and whether or not the divorce was going to come anyway, I'm sure it was hurried along by those circumstances.
Regardless, like Daphne said, they will eventually be forgotten (by the media). The kids, hopefully, will be able to move on. And so will the rest of the world.
