Strange things people say when you're pregnant

It seems like your pregnancy soon becomes *everyone's* pregnancy. It's especially weird when strangers ask personal questions, or worse, ask to touch your belly. What are some strange things people have said to you during your pregnancy?

I remember when my sister was pregnant. She came to visit me in LA, and we went to the Getty Museum. We couldn't go four feet without someone stopping us, usually old men. Odd, no?

My favorites from co-workers at a foundation were gems like, "Did you PLAN this?" and "Didn't you just do this?" The population program sent me a care package with condoms.

One person found it especially important to ask, "You're done, right?" As if my choice to bear more than three children could be coerced from the outside. What's so wrong with loving a large family?

Oooooh man, I can't TELL you how many people made that statement—not a question—"you're done now." I think if my mom could strap me down and remove my ovaries herself, she'd do it, and she'd have help. I refuse to have my tubes tied... I don't like irreversible (or expensive to fix) decisions.

I know, this thread brought to mind inappropriate comments made by health care workers. I wasn't expecting it when a nurse practitioner asked if she should schedule a tubal ligation to conveniently take place with my upcoming delivery. I practically shouted "NO", because all I'd been concentrating on until that point was bringing life INTO the world. She laughed, because she'd never seen anyone so emphatic before. Truth is, I felt violated.
