Adoption: Finding My Birth Mother

Today we’re excited to introduce our new video series, Her Story. The idea is to find and tell real stories about ordinary women, from the funny to the absurd to the heartbreaking. We hope to give insights into the everyday experiences of modern life and inspire you with lessons that might apply to your world. The stories are all filmed by the person at the center of the story, or with the help of their friends and family members, and then edited into videos by the Momversation production team.

Our first episode focuses in on the issues raised by adoption, a process that can lead to great joy and tremendous pain. We’re grateful to Karen Goulet for sharing her touching experience of finding her birth mother with us. I had almost the exact same experience!! I have now known my birth family for just over a year. I didn't know my birth mother's name, just a possible last name. I know exactly how she felt when she met her mother, that's how I felt too. It is still strange for me to look at pictures of my birth family and know that I am blood related to them! Until I had my own kids, I didn't have anyone related to me like that. It's an amazing journey.

I have often wondered what the process of adoption is like for the person who was adopted. There's something so powerful about the urge to connect with a biological parent.
