Work and Money

Like the rest of you working mommies out there, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge (ok, it was more like a heart attack) of guilt the first day I left my son to go back to work. He was 6 weeks and 4 days old, at the time. I was still fighting the baby blues and having a miserable time nursing. Things just weren’t quite as bright and cheery as I had anticipated. The LAST thing I wanted to do was leave my baby (even though I was looking forward to a break from the “colic”) and venture back into the world of middle-aged men—the Army in my case.

When I was pregnant, I had no idea how I would feel about leaving my baby and going back to work. At the time I was in Graduate School and I discussed the idea of how I would care for my baby my classmates. When they asked what I planned to do, here was my standard speech:

“My parents have agreed to split the babysitting duties with my boyfriend when I go back to work. They live close and my boyfriend works nights.” This usually shut people up...

Here I am, well into my stay-at-home mom adventure. It’s been…let me see…if I did my math right…just about 4.5 months. Damn. That seems like forever and like I just stared at the same time. Funny how that happens...

Last week the holidays tossed my schedule out the door and slammed it in his face as he tried to come crawling back. I know, it seemed a little extreme to me too. With Dad-oo home for the week, visiting family and other craziness going on, there was no way to do the normal Momma and Eli activities. It was then that I realized that I miss my schedule...
