Is Circumcision Wrong?

It's a tough decision that every American mother of a baby boy has to make: to circumcise or not circumcise? Opponents claim that it's akin to mutilation. Proponents cite studies showing the health benefits of circumcision. Still others have strong cultural ties to the procedure. Daphne Brogdon of Cool Mom asks the panelists, "What do you think about circumcision?"

I'm new to the Momversation site and I am unsure if I have to be a mom to post here. I just googled "circumcision is wrong" and found this. Anyways. The 'proverbial friend' in my comment is a late teen/early 20's male who is circumcised. He is sexually active and wishes he had never been circumcised. He has been arguing with his parents about it lately, and some of the argument even has to do with their religious affiliation and the impact it has on popularity and acceptance of circumcision. To back up his points, he has done much research and knows other males who have not been circumcised and have no problem disclosing opinions and facts on being "uncut". He knows it is futile to argue with parents about something that happened roughly twenty years ago, but he does it anyways because he feels hurt and he feels as if there is a part of him that is missing. In addition, he understands he doesn't perform in bed as well as other males since circumcision has drastically affected the size and sensitivity of his lower extremities. If you are a parent and you are reading this, please listen carefully. Circumcising your male child can lead to serious self-esteem issues and health problems. For you religious parents out there, there is a possibility that circumcising your male child will cause him to think a little lowly of your religion. It sounds extreme, but it's true and has happened with this proverbial friend of mine.

As an uncircumcized stay-at-home dad I think it isn't even up to a debate. Parents are performing plastic surgery on their defenseless children. The argument that it prevents penile cancer or std's are not a reason to cut. For one the data is inconclusive and the same data that says that also says that female circumcision reduces risk of std's too. Would you do it? Or would you cut off a girl's breasts because of the risk of cancer? By the way the number of SEXUAL nerves in a clitoris is roughly 8,000 whereas the SEXUAL nerves in the foreskin is around 30,000. So no you would not have to cut off the majority of a penis to get the same as female circumcision. So please, I beg you, as a man and father of two uncircumsized boys, let them decide when they are old enough to get any type of plastic surgery. Don't force a decision on them that isn't medically necessary.

Mixed up female circumcision with female genital mutilation. Female circumcision would be the removal of the clitoral hood, maybe the labia as well (arguable, but it would make the amount of nerve endings amputated more equal). Male and female circumcision were popularized n the U.S.A by Dr. Kellogg for the sole reason of stopping masturbation by decreasing sexual sensitivity in the genitalia and causing immense pain to the person (during the mutilation).

WHAT IS LOST TO CIRCUMCISION: About 50% of the penile skin: The double layered foreskin (prepuce), along with the rest of the shaft skin, is a mobile skin system and can freely move up and down the penile shaft, even during an erection. The Pleasurable Sensations of the “Ridged Bands”: The 1/2 inch wide bands of tissue near the tip of the foreskin is the most highly innervated and erogenous part of the penis containing thousands of nerve endings called Meissner’s Corpuscles. The loss of this tissue along with the adjacent sensitive frenulum, reduces a man’s pleasure and full range of sexual response. The foreskin’s Gliding action: This is the hallmark mechanical feature of the natural human penis. The non-abrasive gliding of the penis in and out of its own sheath of skin facilitates smooth, comfortable, pleasurable intercourse for both partners. The Comfort of a covered glans: The foreskin’s inner mucosal tissue provides a warm, moist, protective covering for the sensitive glans. The glans of the circumcised penis becomes dry and calloused from exposure to air and rubbing against clothing. Choice: A man who was circumcised as an infant has lost his right to an intact, normal, and whole penis and the right to control what happens to his own body. BOTTOM LINE: HIS PENIS, ONLY HIS CHOICE. Men (and women) who are allowed as children to keep their whole, intact, normal genitalia, DON’T choose to amputate parts as adults! Please Protect ALL children’s genitals from unnecessary amputations.

Not wrong. Just completely unnecessary and antiquated. If you want to do it for cultural reasons, fine. This is America. Go for it. But just because you want him to look like the other boys in the locker room? No. (By the way, about half of the little boys born right now are not, so no one's going to care.)

Actually circumcision is wrong and if I were I would never talk to my mother out of shear hatred. It was designed to stop masturbation by reducing the pleasure dramatically because the foreskin is the most sensitive part of the penis. Just so you know the facts.

"Not wrong".. just "unnecessary and antiquated" ?! Is this another shim posting by Momversation? So cutting up little girls is technically "wrong" but not cutting up little boys? I especially love the part about "If you want to do it for cultural reasons, fine. This is America. Go for it." Umm, convincing post. For those of you not in the loop Momversation recently deleted the posts of various men (and women) from different personal and religious backgrounds, who commented on this as severe child abuse. Complaints were made about the deletion of posts. (they deleted nearly a half year of our posts). But hey, now you can hit the "more" button. So if you happen to see the disclaimer post below, you may possibly think to click the "more" button, and then might see those comments. I'd urge any thoughtful users of this site to go somewhere else for pensive honest (and uncensored) discussion. And yeah, cutting up a child's private parts *IS* child abuse (duh). What no?.. so cigarette burns are horrible but not cutting up a baby boy's private parts? But hey, let's hold YOU down, and cut up your sexual organs against your will and see if YOU don't think it's WRONG and not just "antiquated".

At any rate I hope the admin group does in fact re-install our posts of the last 5 months. People putting so much time into the matter, and then all our posts were deleted. A lot of us men standing up about how much we've had it with this abuse (abusive parents and doctors cutting up our reproductive organs against our will, and yet same parents and doctors probably decrying child abuse per se).
