2a. At first glance, this photograph is just a candid of my daughter and me after bathtime.  However, it is actually a scathing condemnation of my post-birth style.  Note the tortoiseshell clip ($2 at Walmart, I believe) holding my hair back.  I should say "What's LEFT of my hair," because postpartum hormones have turned me into a shedding machine that my childhood German shepherd would have envied.  I need cute hair accessories to pull it back out of grabby fists and also so it does not wind up on the floor.

2b. The black tank top is one of six Target nursing tanks that I own--four black, two gray.  I invested about $80 in two nursing bras and four cute t-shirts from Motherhood Maternity, and they are so cheaply made that there are now runs all over them from washing--and I only wear them when I go out at night.  My friends and mother have gently (and not-so-gently) expressed concern that my daughter will think that I only owned one shirt during her infancy.  Sadly, I have no photographic proof to the contrary.  My friend exclaimed with surprise when I wore one of the (frayed, running) tees out to dinner with her once.

2c. This photo doesn't touch the issue of pants.  I was at my pre-pregnancy weight at three weeks postpartum, but I suspect it will be many more years before I am my pre-pregnancy *shape*.  I own one pair of jeans that fit and a few clearance-rack shorts.  Everything else gaps and shifts and falls down my new MomButt (I believe Rebecca Woolf addressed the issue of MomButt on her blog; I laughed and wept with recognition).

Finally, now is the prime time for clothes for me.  Thanks to the bangin' body of Christina Hendricks and the popularity of Mad Men, there are actually fashions out now that address a busty lady with a fine fanny.  Also, Maggie Mason's LifeList has inspired me to put "Looking put-together and poised" on my list of day-to-day goals.  Alas, I don't have the resources to help re-dress my post baby body.

Help me, Obi-Wan MomPanelists.  You're my only hope.

Yours in stain-resistant fabrics,
