10 mint leaves, plus extra sprig for garnish
2 tsp superfine sugar
2-3 oz bourbon
Seltzer water
Ice cubes
Crushed ice
Lemon slice for garnish
In a cocktail shaker, add the mint leaves and sugar. Smash them together with a cocktail muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon. Add ice cubes, bourbon and seltzer. Shake vigorously.
To serve, fill a glass with crushed ice and strain the julep over it. Garnish with a sprig of mint and a slice of lemon. It is a proven fact that Mint Juleps taste better when wearing a fancy hat!
